Just a few more days until the first game in the Yo-Kai Watch series of games by Level-5 releases for the Nintendo 3DS. In the coming days Watch of Yokai wants to arm you with some quick tips and sneak peaks about the game so you won’t get left in some speedy Charming yokai’s dust! Get your paws ready to impress your friends on day one!
The key to making the most of your new Yokai friends is getting to know each of the eight “tribes” that yokai comprise; Brave, Heartful, Charming, Mysterious, Slippery, Eerie, Tough, and Shady. These correspond to the original Japanese names for these yokai tribes; イサマシ (brave)、ポカポカ (warm)、プリチー (pretty)、フシギ (mysterious)、ニョロロン (wiggly)、ブキミ (spooky)、ゴーケツ (heroic)、and ウスラカゲ (thinly veiled/shadowy).
These tribe names and symbols indicate what each yokai’s main strength may be. Brave yokai hits hard, Heartful yokai are the best at healing their team mates, Charming yokai are quick and speedy, Mysterious yokai use mystical powers like electricity, fire, and ice, Slippery yokai can help boost their team mate’s states, Eerie yokai decrease enemy abilities, Tough yokai are good at defense, Shady yokai are sneaky. Not every yokai will fit neatly into these roles, so spend a little time with all your friends to create your favorite team. If you group yokai friends of the same tribe together in battle their powers can increase or unlock special passive skills.
And here’s another secret tip, try teaming up yokai that have other similarities with each other besides tribe… you maybe surprised what tricks you’ll discover!
